“I’ve been shooting in Great Yarmouth, an often maligned seaside town located in the East of Norfolk, for the past two years as it’s an area that I know very well and spent most of my life visiting and continue to do so. I was asked by a friend to shoot the local banger racing at Great Yarmouth Stadium and quickly found myself drawn to the pit. An area where drivers gather with their cars, teams, friends and family to make final adjustments and eagerly await their turn on the track. Banger Racing is held close by the community as it brings everyone together for an evening to witness hand-painted cars collide at high speeds. It gives men and women the chance to become local heroes and offers a break from every day life interspersed with flying metal, loud bangs and a Mr. Whippy or two. With this project I want to be able to give others an insight into what goes on behind the scenes and the people that make banger racing what it is. ”
